{"id":248,"date":"2009-09-29T22:23:11","date_gmt":"2009-09-29T22:23:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alisonpowell.ca\/?p=248"},"modified":"2009-09-29T22:23:11","modified_gmt":"2009-09-29T22:23:11","slug":"working-mothers-healthy-or-dangerous","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alisonpowell.ca\/?p=248","title":{"rendered":"Working mothers &#8211; healthy or dangerous?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Institute of Child Health at University College London has released a<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ich.ucl.ac.uk\/pressoffice\/pressrelease_00762\"> study <\/a>that indicates that single children whose mothers work outside the home don&#8217;t eat as many fruits and vegetables, watch more TV, and are more likely to be driven to school than to walk.\u00a0 The media has <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/health\/8278742.stm\">pounced<\/a> &#8211; stories about the terrible difficulty of being a &#8220;working mum,&#8221; especially when the consequences are so dire.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s interesting to take this study in the context of another ICH study that the BBC <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/health\/4765411.stm\">reported <\/a>in 2006 &#8211; that the same women who work outside the home are healthier than those who stay at home.
